When embarking on your adventure, it’s helpful to keep a few things in mind to make the most your of your Ksana Safaris experience. Thousands of people have enjoyed safe and life-changing experiences in Africa, but it’s up to you to maximize your ability to enjoy this majestic country.
Country, Climate, and Culture
First, you’ll be going to the country of Tanzania, in the region of East Africa. Tanzania is situated just south of the Equator.
Tropical weather prevails. In the coastal area, it is hot and humid. However, in the northern circuit, cool weather is normal between May and September. Temperatures vary between 20-30C ( 68-80 F) the day, and will cool down at night.
There are two rainy seasons to be aware of in Tanzania. The “long rains” season is between mid-March to early June. The “short rains” season occurs between October and November. It’s important to note that although lodging is cheaper during the rainy “off” season, your ability to view wildlife will be limited.
The people of Tanzania are gracious and friendly. Swahili is the national language, but English is widely spoken. There are a few areas of cultural awareness that will help you to fully enjoy your trip in a responsible and respectable way. According to Lonely Planet, it’s important to remember the following:
- Always start a conversation with a greeting. Politeness and respect are important to East African cultures.
- Please refrain from handing out food or money. It encourages begging and perpetuates stereotypes of both Africans and non-Africans.
- It’s culturally inappropriate to handle food with your left hand. “Use cutlery when available, but if it’s not, always handle food with your right hand.
- Don’t take pictures of anyone without their permission.
- Slow down, chill out, and enjoy the relaxed rhythms of life in East African countries. Impatience is unhelpful, and unhealthy. You’re on vacation. Enjoy it!
Dress & What to Bring
Light clothing is preferable for ladies and gentlemen. Between May and October, light warm clothing is recommended in the northern area of Tanzania. Ngorongoro crater (located at the east entrance into the Serengeti Park) is often chilly, so a pull-over is advisable. Long sleeves and trousers in light-colored fabrics help discourage insect bites. Consider bringing a bush hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. Insect repellent and a torch/flashlight may also come in handy. Don’t forget to bring your cameras and memory cards to capture what Ksnana Safaris offers!”
By preparing ahead and starting your Ksana Safari adventure with clear expectations will help ensure you can look forward to a trip of amazing experiences that will transform your life forever!
