FAQ

What's the best time to go?

Because of Africa’s wide diversity in its ecosystems and climate, there’s really never a bad time to visit Africa!

You’re sure to see amazing wildlife year-round, but some parks and reserves may have different types of animals in greater numbers because of seasonal migration patterns.

If you really want to see a particular type of animal, contact us, and we’ll help you figure out the best time for your trip.

Contact us to get a quick overview and reference guide for the best seasons for particular types of wildlife viewing.

How do I choose the best destination?

Because African countries are so diverse and expansive, it can be difficult to choose!

You can read our quick overviews of both Kenya and Tanzania but it really depends on a number of factors.

How much time do you have to spend visiting Africa? What’s your budget? What are your goals for your trip?

This is where we put our experiences in Africa and world-travel to work for you! If you’re looking for a “whirlwind” tour, we can do that! Or if you’re looking for a more leisurely visit to a few, select places, we can recommend the perfect itinerary.

Again, we’d love to chat to help you figure out the best destination for you!

What can I expect on an actual safari?

On an African safari, you can expect amazing wildlife, fantastic food, incredible scenery, and new friends, both in Africa and abroad. African hospitality is legendary!

A typical day on safari begins with an early morning wake up call (5:00 am is common) and a light breakfast. Why so early? That’s when the animals are out! On the morning game drive, you can expect to see an incredible range of species of wildlife.

When you return from the morning game drive, you’ll be greeted by a complete breakfast, combining the best of African traditional foods and staples from other countries. The late morning is for relaxing, or for guided tours to local villages or other attractions. But, always keep your camera on hand, because wildlife often shows up unexpectedly!

A safari tradition is “high tea” (usually around 3 or 4 pm), where everyone gathers for tea, coffee, and a delightful selection of sweet treats and refreshments.

On the afternoon game drive, you can expect to see another fantastic sampling of African wildlife, since different species are more active at different times of the day. Refreshing drinks will be included on the drive.

Evenings at the camp are full of amazing dinners, stories around the campfire, along with drinks and cocktails at sunset. Sometimes guests can participate in special night game drives, which provide a unique glimpse into the secret lives of African wildlife.

Whatever your preferences or needs, we’ll do our best to design your trip around your goals!

Will I be 'roughing it'?

Well, we assume that you’re looking for adventure. Otherwise you’d be researching cruises or deals for Las Vegas!

Every safari involves encountering wildlife in the wild. So, yes, you’ll be outdoors, on a safari, but you won’t be on a TV survival show!

You’ll have easy access to all the basic necessities while on safari, and your guides will be quick to honor any special requests. The accommodations are world class and eco-friendly, so you’ll enjoy a very comfortable stay even while on your safari.

Of course, you have the option to design your trip however you want, so if you’re looking for a more “raw” experience in the wilds of Africa, we can help to make that happen!

The key is to tell us as much as you can about what you want out of the trip, and to ask questions. That will help us to make sure we deliver a trip that you’ll love!

How much will this actually cost?

The actual costs of your trip will range widely, based on your goals and priorities. We’ll work with you to figure out the best, and most economical, way to make your dreams become realities.

For those who favor intimate, boutique venues, $1,000-2,000 per night is a realistic goal. However, we can easily arrange trips that average $650 a night.

When you’re traveling halfway around the world, the last thing you want to do is cut corners and miss out on any of the majestic intrigue of Africa!

A further consideration is that most parks and reserves will charge a small conservancy fee, which will help ensure that Africa’s wildlife will remain for generations to come.

Is it really safe in Africa?

As travel experts, with many connections in Africa, we stay up-to-date with travel safety issues or concerns.

Kenya and Tanzania are two of the most stable countries in Africa.

Our guides have years of experience with guiding guests safely through their encounters with Africa’s wildlife. We will never send our guests into situations that are not safe, or on a trip that we wouldn’t go on ourselves!

Insurance

Book Your Flight

To ensure seat availability on your preferred travel dates and the best price, make your airline reservations as early as possible. You may also want to purchase travel insurance at the time you purchase you airline ticket.

If you are flying KLM, we recommend selecting seats in the front or very rear of the plane so you can be one of the first passengers off the plane at Kilimanjaro International Airport and at the front of the immigration line.

Comprehensive Travel Medical Insurance

We highly recommend that comprehensive travel medical insurance be purchased for the full amount and duration of your trip. Coverage should include trip cancellation, delay or interruption, lost or delayed baggage, emergency accident, illness and evacuation, 24-hour medical assistance and traveler’s assistance.

Please note that most trip cancellation insurance must be purchased within two weeks of the purchase of your airline tickets.

If you are in need of travel insurance and don't have a vendor, let us know and we can connect you to one we work with consistently, even for our own personal travel needs!
