Ksana Safaris currently focuses on taking guests for a life-changing experience to East Africa. However, before we started focusing on Africa, we traveled the world to experience the magnificent diversity of wildlife and cultures throughout the world.
We went to places such as Bukit Lawang in Indonesia to sit in a hammock near a secluded river in the forest. We went on a six-hour trek into the jungle to locate critically endangered wild Sumatran Orangutans. We ventured into the secluded San Juan Islands in the remote Pacific Northwest to experience a rare sighting of Orcas. We were blessed to see different pods in the wild—an amazing spectacle that many will only see in theme parks.
These are moments we remember more profoundly than a brand-new car or the watch you bought with your first paycheck after you graduated! Sound a little farfetched? Well, think about a fun vacation or experience you had during travel! Hold on to that thought for a moment. Now double … no quadruple that feeling! That’s what an eco-tour adventure does for us!
For many this may sound a bit absurd but, unfortunately, most people do not take the time to get out of the city, get off their computers, phones, or comfort zones, to find out that one of the most fulfilling things they can do is connect with nature. You can find these experiences whether it’s a visit to a local park, or to some beautiful remote destination such as the Galapagos Islands. (If you go to Galapagos visit Kicker Rock for an awesome snorkel—it’s a Ksana favorite!).
As beautiful as these destinations and moments were, we came across unfortunate events that also changed our awareness. For instance, watching other tourists disturb marine iguanas and turtle nests on a beach in the Galapagos (although the local authorities are very good there at stopping this and promoting eco-tourism standards) to tourists jumping out of cars en masse when they saw a wild grizzly in the heart of Yellowstone National Park, to governments that are recklessly building railroads and fences through the middle of national parks where endangered wildlife exists (Nairobi National Park in Kenya).
We slowly realized that we daily take for granted these beautiful, yet fragile, eco-systems just for our own convenience or to take Instagram-worthy selfies! On the flip side, we also understand that, as a growing population, we have a need for important resources—we don’t expect everyone to become a tree hugger!
What can we do to find a solution? It won’t be easy, but we can all make smarter & more eco-conscious decisions in our everyday lives. We believe that change will start when you get to experience some of these beautiful destinations and see how you can effortlessly have an impact on these fragile eco-systems. The results are always more profound when you experience something, rather than seeing it or reading about it! This is the foundation of Ksana Safaris and what drives us every day to promote and share these wonderful moments in nature! So, get out there in nature and share your adventures with us!
