Our Story
Ksana is a term in Sanskrit meaning “moment” or a “moment in time.” Ksana Safaris was born from our passion for losing ourselves and finding ourselves all at the same time in nature, culture, and travel.
Whether it’s locking eyes with a wild lion for the first time …
… sleeping in an eco-luxury camp in the Serengeti and hearing the wildlife come alive at night under a secluded starry night,
… meeting other travelers,
… or getting to know the friendly locals and their culture …
We live for these rare "Ksanas" and want to share them with you!
Neal Patel founded and now leads Ksana Safaris. Neal was always fascinated by wildlife, starting with his parents taking him to local zoos and theme parks. His interest grew by watching wildlife documentaries weekly with an uncle who was born in Uganda and also had a deep passion for nature.
Neal was born in the United States and lived most of his life in Florida. He graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in construction management and later become a successful Healthcare Real Estate Development/Construction Project Manager.
However, something was still missing, even though he was successful by society’s standards. Neal started travelling around the world and bought a camera—not knowing that, half a decade later, he would find what truly fulfilled him! On his first trip to East Africa he fell in love with the beauty of the wildlife, the environment, and the people. It felt like being a kid again— watching those wildlife documentaries with his uncle.
At the same time, he felt conflicted by seeing firsthand the devastating effects of widespread poverty, mass tourism, poor customer service, pollution, and human wildlife conflicts around the world. He knew that, with his passion and skills as a wildlife photographer, his experience as a world traveler and a success as a developer/ builder, he had to leverage his background in the service of sustainability and conservation!
